Overview
I collaborated with Dr. Erin Hartnett at NYU Meyers to develop this eLearning module as part of the HRSA Grant funded Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Development Program (PC-NP-PDP). Dr. Hartnett and I aimed to highlight the importance of oral health in pediatric care and equip learners with introductory knowledge for providing oral health care within their scope of practice.

The Challenge
A needs analysis revealed that our target audience was not giving oral health examinations to their patients in their practice setting, nor did they identify the risks of early childhood caries (ECC). Therefore, we wanted to produce content that influenced learners' attitudes toward oral health while also providing applicable practices for identifying risks, giving oral health exams, and applying fluoride varnish, to name a few. Following adult learning theory, we also created a module that consists of small case studies in which learners must apply what they learned to real-life patient scenarios.

Content
To measure learning, the course begins with a 10-question pre-test and ends with a 10-question post-test. Each sub-module is comprised of content presented through various forms of media, including video and pictorial presentation, as well as audio narration by Dr. Hartnett. Some content is curated from other sources on the web that we got permission to use, such as material from Smiles for Life, a national oral health educational program.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify the importance of oral health to overall health.
- Identify the oral-systemic connection
- Recognize interprofessional collaborative practice for oral health
Development and Delivery
I built each sub-module in Adobe Captivate and published files in HTML5 to the PC-NP-PDP website, as SCORM files to faculty members' NYU Classes courses, and as a Continuing Education Program on the National Association of Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) website.
