Overview
I collaborated with Dr. Robin Toft Klar, a Population Health expert, at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing to develop this eLearning course as part of the Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Development Program (PC-NP-PDP). The overall objective is to introduce participants to the impacts of population health as a bridge between traditional medical care and public health. The course consists of 5 sub-modules that address various issues related to population health. Each sub-module incorporates video presentations given by Dr. Klar and my colleague, Julie Baldyga. Knowledge checks and external links are embedded throughout the course to for learners to assess their own knowledge and consult resources that may be useful in their practice.
Links to each sub-module are located at the bottom of this page.
Interview with FDNY Fire Chiefs
This module is unique because we also collaborated with FDNY Bronx Fire Department Chiefs, Alvin Suriel and Joseph Woznica. Chiefs Suriel and Woznica were kind enough to provided geo-spatial information systems (GIS) maps developed by the FDNY and agreed to film an interview in which they explain why they use the GIS maps, how they use them, and how health care professionals can collaborate with non-traditional partners to improve health outcomes of the populations that they serve.
Pior to filming, we provided Chiefs Suriel and Woznica with interview questions ahead of time so that they could prepare their answers and so that Dr. Klar and I could identify any answers that required elaboration or omit information. We practiced the interview over the phone and filmed the interview at NYU's Digital Studio at Bobst Library about a week later.
Target Audience
Practicing NP Preceptors and NP Students at NYU.
Learning Outcomes
Development and Delivery
I built each sub-module in Adobe Captivate and published files in HTML5 to the PC-NP-PDP website, as SCORM files to faculty members' NYU Classes courses, and as a Continuing Education Program on the National Association of Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) website.
